The fashion world mourns the loss of Italian designer Roberto Cavalli, who passed away at the age of 83 on Friday. Cavalli was known for his flamboyant and glamorous designs, which often featured animal prints and sexy silhouettes.
Cavalli’s career began in the early 1970s. His innovative use of textiles, with a focus on leather and sandblasted denim, quickly set him apart. However, it was his bold use of animal prints – zebra, python, and leopard being his favorites – that became his signature. These prints adorned dresses, pantsuits, and even accessories, creating a distinctly Cavalli look that exuded confidence and sensuality.
Throughout his long career, Cavalli remained true to his vision. His designs were a favorite among celebrities, with stars like Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Victoria Beckham gracing red carpets in his creations.
Cavalli’s company announced the news of his passing on Instagram. In a heartfelt message, Fausto Puglisi, the current creative director at Roberto Cavalli, paid tribute to the founder, stating, “Your name will continue on, a beacon of inspiration for others, and especially for me.”
Cavalli is survived by his six children and his partner, Sandra Bergman Nilsson. News reports indicate he had been ill for some time.
The flamboyant designer’s legacy extends beyond fashion. Cavalli was a passionate art collector and enjoyed a vibrant social life. He ventured into real estate and even had his own popular nightclub in Milan, “Just Cavalli Cafe.”
While some saw his designs as flamboyant and even outrageous, there was no denying Cavalli’s impact on the fashion industry. His influence is undeniable, leaving a lasting mark with his bold colors, luxurious textures, and unforgettable animal prints.
